Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week

Here you will find information on all aspects of our welcome to new students in September

When should you plan to arrive?

When you choose to arrive will depend on many things;  when you can move into your halls room or private accommodation; whether you still need to arrange accommodation on arrival; when you can make your travel arrangements; whether you live locally.

We recognise that everyone's situation is different so we offer some recommendations below to help you to plan when to arrive and when to get involved.

Induction

>> Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week

Arrivals Weekend

Arrivals weekend will be like any other working days on campus - only much busier!  We want you to be able to access all the usual university services so that you can have all your questions answered and all your practical needs met so that you are ready for your induction on the Monday.

Saturday "Practical" Day

Whilst many halls licences and private shared housing contracts means you can move into your accommodation sooner, we would recommend that you plan to move in on Arrivals Weekend when we will be expecting you!  You will also be able to visit your faculty support office, the student funding office and accommodation office and many other student services to ask questions and get information.  You will be able to join the gym, register with the campus medical centre, online enrol if you haven't already and much more!

Sunday "Fun" Day

With all the practical things taken care of yesterday, this is the day to concentrate on meeting people, getting to know your surroundings and experiencing what the city and the university have to offer.  With campus tours, city tours, open top bus tours, harbour cruises, sports activities, social gatherings and Students Union events there will be lots for you to choose from!

Activities and Events Programme

The programme for Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week will go live at the beginning of September.

International Arrivals

You can arrive on the date that suits you but we would recommend that you plan to arrive before Arrivals Weekend if you need to find accommodation or over Arrivals Weekend if you have already arranged your accommodation.

Heathrow Meet and Greet Coach Service

If you are arriving at Heathrow Airport (or you can make your way there) we can pick you up and bring you directly to Plymouth.   You can join the coach service at Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 and you will arrive into Plymouth around 5 hours later.  You can book a seat on one of our coaches at a cost of £20.

Arrivals Accommodation

Temporary arrivals accommodation will be available during Arrivals Weekend for students searching for permanent accommodation.  You will be able to book your first night in advance at a cost of £16.

Student Welcome Centre

The Student Welcome Centre is a one-stop information point that operates during Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week.

It’s run by students, and they know just how it feels to be new on campus, so please come by with your queries, sign up for activities and events, relax in the nearby café and use it as a meeting point.
