Postgraduate research

The Graduate School

The Graduate School is the administrative hub for all research degrees processes - from enquiries to award of degrees.
 
The Graduate School plays an important role in the development of the postgraduate community within the university. It aims to provide a range of support for postgraduate education and students undertaking research degrees.

Graduate School support includes:

  • Opportunities for research degree students, and research staff, to develop research and professional skills.
  • Access to scholarships, for research degrees.
  • Access to the Postgraduate Portal which provides key information for and from postgraduate students.
  • The Access Grid, a video conferencing facility for the research community at the University.
  • •Assurance of the quality of our provision through regulations, codes of practice and feedback from our students.

The researcher development programme

Offers a wide range of courses designed to help our postgraduate research students and research staff develop and broaden their research and personal transferable skills. The sessions are  free of charge to all research students and research staff at Plymouth University. We strongly encourage all researchers to take up these opportunities to develop or refine a skill and, network with colleagues.

 Graduate School support includes:

  • Social space in which to meet staff and other postgraduates and a Postgraduate Society and helping create a vibrant and inclusive postgraduate community.
  • The Graduate School is responsible for servicing Graduate Committee, one of the formal committees of Academic Board, responsible for the regulations of research degrees and the development and support of the University's graduate community.

The Postgraduate Society

The Postgraduate Society is run by our postgraduates for our postgraduates. The society organises:

  • Social get-togethers, such as the monthly lunchtime exchange, excursions and an annual dinner party.
  • Conference series, which showcases the excellent work of research students at Plymouth University and gives the students the opportunity to practice how to communicate their research to a wider audience.
