Eduroam WiFi

Introduction to the Eduroam wifi service

The University participates in the JANET Roaming Service.  JANET Roaming is part of the eduroam federation in which the UK, 22 other European countries, Australia and Taiwan have collaborated to provide international authentication facilities.

This allows the University to use the eduroam wireless service on its campuses. Eduroam provides an infrastructure that allows users, whether from Plymouth University or visitors to it, to use their own (home university) credentials to gain wireless access.

Eduroam WiFi is available in almost all University locations.

These are the details you will need to use the service:

A laptop computer or other mobile device with either an external or built-in wireless card suitable for use with 802.11g/n wireless networking, and which supports 802.1x authentication.

Instructions for connecting to the eduroam wireless network are provided as Adobe PDF documents for the following client operating systems:

As described in some of the guides the AddTrust External CA Root certificate is required in order to connect.  A zip file is available to download this.

In order to install, unzip the certificate, double-click on the certificate file when downloaded, then click 'Install' (at the bottom).  Click the 'Next' button until it asks where you would like the certificate to be stored.  Click the option 'Place all certificates in the following store' then 'Browse' then select 'Trusted Root Certification Authorities' then proceed to click 'Next' until the certificate has been successfully installed.
