Some useful sites....

The Internet and the computers we use to access it are full of educational possibilities that can help to speed up, complement or provide endless opportunities to expand our knowledge. Unfortunately, sometimes those with disabilities may find these resources more difficult or sometimes impossible to access. Whether you need to use the computer for research, to write a paper or just to learn a new skill, those with disabilities of all kinds can check out 100 Web Tools for Learning with a Disability to help them improve their learning potential while surfing the Web.

The Web Accessibility Toolbar  has been developed to aid manual examination of web pages for a variety of aspects of accessibility. It consists of a range of functions that:

identify components of a web page
provide access to alternate views of page content
facilitate the use of 3rd party online applications

My Study Bar is a tool which helps overcome problems that students commonly experience with studying, reading and writing. The tool consists of a set of portable open source and freeware applications, assembled into one convenient package. Easy to install, simple to use, handy and effective, MyStudyBar provides comprehensive learning support at the desktop, where it is needed. And if this is not already attractive enough, a further eye-catching feature of MyStudyBar is that it is completely FREE to download and free to use.

Although MyStudyBar is designed to support learners with literacy-related difficulties such as dyslexia, the toolbar can offer potential benefits to all learners.

ScreenTinter Lite from Thomson Software Solutions  provides a quick, easy and free way to adjust the colour properties of your Windows display.

It is a great tool to help those with scotopic sensitivity or other related reading difficulties; or to help those who wish to reduce the glare from their screen. Changing the screen's colour scheme could also potentially motivate learners with more severe cognitive difficulties.

Screen Shades is a utility to help users with sensitive eyes. With Screen Shades you can tint the display with five tints (grey, blue, yellow, pink, and My Tint, a colour selected from the colours window by the user). The Control Panel provides a drop-down menu to select the tint, a slider to control the amount of the tint and a checkbox to turn the effect on/off. The Control Panel may be dragged out of the way on the desktop and minimized. Control Panel settings and position are saved between sessions.

TouchBase puts students moving into Higher Education in touch with e-mentors who can help them during transition from School or College.
