'Highly-trained university tutors provide inspirational teaching’

Ofsted Initial Teacher Education inspection report, June 2011

Ofsted Outstanding logoThere are many ways of being a musician!  We have a rich musical environment where we invite and encourage students to discover themselves as artists and to explorer the implications for classroom practice.

The music modules aim to develop you as a confident, competent and creative music practitioner.  As a music specialist you will be able to communicate a wide variety of musical concepts and learning opportunities for both children and colleagues.   There are options for participating in a wide range of musical activities on the campus and in the locality.  We also encourage students to set up their own ensembles/bands.

Teaching is mostly in the form of interactive workshops and seminars.  Assessment is primarily by coursework and there are no end-of-year/semester examinations.

'I wanted to make a difference to people's lives with my career, and do something that I enjoyed and was worthwhile. Specialist subject music has been a wonderful experience. I have been encouraged to explore and express my own musicality through performance and composition in a no-pressure environment. Support from staff has been excellent as has the scale and availability of resources.
