Statisticians' work with data ranges from planning its collection to its analysis and interpretation. There are tremendous prospects in business, industry, government and medicine for graduates who can apply mathematics and statistics to real world problems and business decisions. As modern technology allows statisticians to handle very large amounts of data the importance of these well paid professionals is continually increasing. 

Applied Statistics with Management Science with Plymouth University

This is a final year only course. It is two thirds statistics and one third business, Applicants from school or college should apply to year one of BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Statistics and may transfer after the first two years of that course. Applicants with the necessary background, eg a higher diploma in statistics and some knowledge of business, should apply directly and will be considered individually.

Topics treated in the year include computational statistics, epidemiology, multivariate statistics plus optimisation and logistics. Professional software such as R is widely used. The course also benefits from close contact with the Royal Statistical Society's Centre for Statistical Education which was recently relocated to Plymouth. The management science content of this course is chosen from one of the following pathways: accounting/financial analysis; business modelling; or quantitative economics/econometrics.

This is a highly practical degree which lets you master many technical skills. We are very proud of the support we offer to our students. Our lecturers are at the forefront of their subjects and the degree is strongly informed by their research. Many of our graduates have gone on to extremely successful careers in industry, finance and academia.

This degree is accredited by the Royal Statistical Society. Appropriate professional training and experience subsequently lead to Chartered Statistician status.

We have an open door policy and a personal tutor system where your tutor is a lecturer whom you will also be seeing regularly in the lecture theatre. Additionally our SumUP mathematics and statistics drop in centre is open in the main library from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday during term. 
Plymouth is the new base for the Royal Statistical Society's Centre for Statistical Education, because of its reputation for teaching and research in mathematics and statistics.
