- Gain a detailed knowledge about position-fixing, including GPS and astro-navigation
- Study factors influencing decision-making in the marine environment and learn about yacht construction and stability
- Gain a wide range of practical experience, with the opportunity to gain RYA qualifications

Stage 3
Following stage two, students may choose to spend a year at sea gaining experience required for professional qualifications

Stage 4
- Acquire the skills of an ocean navigator and gain experience in managing operations and solving problems encountered in the marine environment (includes RYA Yachtmaster Ocean theory)
- Further study of advanced topics in ship stability, maintenance and management
- Undertake a year-long research project on a topic of personal interest
