Course breakdown

Stage 1
  • Learn the key concepts and theories of podiatric practice including anatomy, biomechanics, physiology and podiatric medicine
  • Undertake essential shared learning with other healthcare students to give you a broad perspective of multi-disciplinary work
  • Gain practice skills through supervised placements in NHS based training clinics
Stage 2
  • Increase your knowledge, regarding podiatric practice for children and older people
  • Developing confidence and personal skills required to work as a podiatrist in a placement setting
  • Develop research skills to support practice, with evidence based learning
  • Develop skills in the treatment of lower limb disorders, through the application of physical and mechanical therapies, pharmacology and surgery
Stage 3
  • Patient-focussed clinical practice and theory addressing contemporary health issues and complex medical cases
  • Exciting opportunities to undertake an in-depth supervised project in an area of personal interest
  • Become an autonomous practitioner, practicing professional skills for clinical, pharmacological and surgical management
  • Work towards a prescription only medicine certificate and local anaesthetic  certificate
  • Evaluate management skills to prepare you for managing a clinic

​Course funding

  • You are currently entitled to a means tested bursary (the amount depends on your current financial circumstances) for the duration of your course through the NHS Business Services Authority if you are a UK national
  • The NHS will currently meet (in full) your Tuition Fee Contribution on your behalf if you are a UK or EU national

On successful completion of the course, you are eligible to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council.

Student placements

You will have 1000 hours of practice learning which will be spread across the three years.

​Theory location​

The theory side of the course will be based in Plymouth at the Peninsula Allied Health Centre (PAHC). The Podiatry Clinic is at Mount Gould (1.5 miles from Drake Circus, 4.5 miles from PAHC).

Please note: In order to successfully complete your course and be eligible to apply for a professional registration you must complete a specified number of practice placement hours along with your theoretical study. This is a requirement of the HPC. Therefore you will only be able to take personal holidays during the specified leave periods for your course. This includes induction week where it is vital you attend ALL sessions.
