Interview
Introduction
My name's Pete Bishop, I’m originally from Hastings in East Sussex. I actually moved down to Plymouth about 12 years ago when I joined the Royal Marines, I left last year and in the Marines I was a medic.
Why did you decide to do BSc (Hons) Paramedic Practitioner Community Emergency Health?
I always had an interest in becoming a paramedic, so I then went to an open day at Plymouth University and the BSc Paramedic Practitioner was new this year so I thought it was a natural progression to my career to get qualified as a paramedic hence that’s why I became interested in this course.
What sort of contact have you had with the emergency services?
My placement currently is frontline so I’m working at the pointy end of the field. We’ve received quite a good response from the emergency service. I was a bit unsure initially of the reception we would have got but overall I’ve had a very good response and they’ve been very interested and supportive.
What sort of support have you received since you’ve been here?
The support available is of a high level whether it’s from email or face to face contact from my lecturers, so, overall I think it’s of a high standard and they are always there to help.
What has been the highlights and low point of the course so far?
A highlight was initially being accepted onto the course, but actually on my placements when you participate in giving medical care to a patient and receiving thanks from that patient it's very rewarding. A low point at the moment, I can’t really think of any low points to be honest.
