Course summary

The pre-hospital environment of health care is often unpredictable, and as a paramedic practitioner you would have to be dynamic with your decision-making, aptitude and application of skills. At the same time it is a highly rewarding and stimulating career, with many opportunities to specialise.

There is Government demand to reconfigure the provision of out of hospital care to make it more efficient and effectual; the role of the Paramedic is therefore rapidly evolving into a Paramedic Practitioner offering a more holistic delivery of services. The benefits of this new course will be the ability to encompass these changes.

This is a three-year course, in which (on successful completion) you will be eligible to apply for registration as a Paramedic with the Health Professions Council (HPC) at the end of year 2. You may then enter year three of the course (if you wish to do so) as a registered Paramedic to further develop learning proficiencies and competencies required for a practitioner role. In addition to this course, there are other Paramedic/emergency care courses and pathways available. For further details about the courses and eligibility criteria please select the link to our Paramedicine at the University of Plymouth section.

The theory side of the course will be based in Plymouth at the Peninsula Allied Health Centre (PAHC).
