Make a difference

The public services provided by governments for their people are essential for the maintenance of modern societies. We all rely on such services from health and security, to education.  The public sector employs millions of people and requires efficient and committed managers to deliver its services.

BSc (Hons) Public Services

This course is delivered as a third-year top-up only and aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for employment in the delivery, management and evaluation of public services by public agencies and non-governmental organisations. It has been structured to provide a blend of theory and practice that will: a) consolidate students’ foundation knowledge of modern public management systems, theories and technologies and their application to everyday organisational operations; and b) provide students with a relevant career development opportunity that encourages the acquisition of knowledge and qualifications.
Professor Joyce Liddle, Plymouth Business School external examiner and internationally recognised scholar, describes the BSc (Hons) Public Services course as:

“…an exemplary programme and if not one of the best of its kind in the UK, it may well be the very best. The programme is forward thinking and topical. The programme indicates a high degree of conceptual, theoretical and analytical capabilities from the students, and demonstrates excellent teaching and learning with very committed staff and good quality facilities. One of the key strengths is the connection to real world case materials and the involvement of key personnel and various organisations across the public services. It is a tremendous experience for the students undertaking this course, as learning is clearly underpinned by on-going high quality research across the faculty.”
Professor Joyce Liddle, Professor of Public Leadership and Strategy and Co-Director of the Centre for Leadership & Organisational Change, Teesside University.
