Stage 1
Gain the foundations in engineering science, manufacture and materials and mathematics in common with our other BSc Mechanical engineering courses
Study the fundamentals of marine craft design
Study quality and project management
Participate in a hands-on module in manufacturing methods
Stage 2
Study the resistance and propulsion of marine vessels, ship stability and the use of composite materials in marine structures
There are further modules in design; mathematics; manufacture and materials; engineering science; mechatronics and computer-aided engineering
Stage 3
A placement provides valuable professional paid experience which may lead to sponsorship, a final year project and future employment. Support is given to those seeking suitable positions
Although optional, you are strongly encouraged to undertake a work placement
Stage 4
Study elements of naval architecture (covering ships' structures) and marine engineering (covering ships' machinery)
Learn about design and manufacture using composite materials
Develop knowledge and skill through both a group design project and an in-depth individual project in an area of personal interest
