I am currently employed as a Project Engineer on a £40 million university office and cleanroom building.  This involves undertaking some 3D finite element modelling. I am also Project Manager on a £2.5 million extension to an existing primary school and a new £13 million public library in Crawley. I have a team of 4 people working for me and I am responsible for managing them.

Assistant Structural Engineer, Gifford (civil and structural consulting engineers)

I chose to study a degree in civil engineering after completing a diploma in my home country of Malaysia.  Three UK universities offered me direct entry into the second year.  I chose Plymouth for its location, study environment, facilities and the University’s rating in civil engineering. The lecturers were all also extremely friendly and helpful.

What the students say

I work for Atkins (the largest civil engineering and design consultants in the UK) as a structural engineer, based in Exeter. I'm currently on a 12 month secondment in London and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I'm working on a project which involves upgrading two-thirds of the London Underground system.
