Book on an undergraduate open day

Student placements

Many of our graduates say the work placement year, offered on most of our courses, was invaluable in helping them launch their careers.

As well as giving students invaluable 'real world' experience a year in industry can often lead to job offers from the placement company.

You could earn around £16,000 pa (or more) and possibly even gain sponsorship through your final year(s) at university.  Most placements are within the UK but students have worked as far away as Africa.

Bottom line, you will gain valuable experience that will help you find a job when you graduate.

The School of Marine Science and Engineering is based in the Reynolds building, adjacent to the well-equipped Brunel undergraduate laboratories. Next to the Reynolds building is our new £19million world-class marine facility, which is due to open in Spring 2012, and will provide some of the best research and testing facilities in the country. We have our own engineering computer laboratory equipped with specialist engineering software so our students have ample access to PCs where they can develop skills that will not only assist them academically but will also greatly improve their employment potential. The University library houses nearly half a million books, journals and other resources and has a 24/7 open access computing area, media work shop and study rooms.

"We have taken many graduates from Plymouth, their grounding in civil engineering and specific skills in coastal engineering being a great asset."
