Course highlights

This degree course is unique in developing a broad understanding of the science behind marine sports. You will gain experience of a range of activities and marine sports coaching, alongside a detailed programme of sports science, ocean and environmental science, management and business and materials technology. There is the opportunity to focus on specific marine sports through module options and to undertake project work.
An optional diving module is available in the second year. We are the only UK university to offer a professional diving course as part of a degree.

This unique course from Plymouth University emphasises the scientific basis underlying marine sports. South west England is the base for many international players in industrial design and manufacture of marine sports equipment, and the main centres of administration for a number of marine sports administrative bodies are located in the region.  

Strong links to industry are important for any degree course.

Our courses are highly respected throughout the industry with many of our former students occupying high-level positions. Many of our academic staff are also members of professional bodies.

Diving?


An optional diving module is available in the second year. We are the only UK university to offer a professional diving course as part of a degree.

Advanced study areas include: sports science for marine sports; equipment and performance environmental impacts of marine sports; trade and commerce in marine sports; residential field week.
