Book on an undergraduate open day

Stage 1

  • Gain the foundations in engineering science, manufacture and materials and mathematics in common with our other BSc Mechanical Engineering courses
  • Study the fundamentals of marine craft design
  • Study quality and project management
  • Opportunities to make use of the University's excellent Diving and Marine Centre

Stage 2

  • Study the aero/hydro dynamics of marine craft and naval architecture
  • Study manufacturing techniques, engineering science and engineering design
  • Use a modern marine navigation simulator suite as part of marine navigation application

Stage 3

  • A placement provides valuable paid experience in industry. Support is given to find a suitable position
  • You are strongly encouraged to undertake a work placement, although this is optional
  • A placement may lead to sponsorship in your final year, a final year project, or opportunities for future employment

Stage 4

  • Study the structural design of boats and their systems
  • Use advanced software to predict boat performance
  • Learn about designing and manufacturing in composite materials
  • Benefit from the experience of invited experts on small craft surveying and undertake a major project.
