Great teaching

Our degrees are taught by enthusiastic staff who bring a passion for their subject and a wealth of experience and knowledge to their teaching.
  • Our degrees give you high-level skills and rapidly reach modern mathematical and statistical topics in an innovative way.  The final year project offers our students an opportunity to pursue an interest in depth. Showing their project has helped many students gain the job they wanted.
  • Our students have easy access to support through an open door policy which means that our staff are directly available to help students. Additionally, we run a personal tutor system to provide each student with individual academic and personal support from one of their lecturers.
  • The first year of all our degrees is structured to ensure that students from all backgrounds acquire a common mathematical expertise. We have a strong research group in mathematics education which gives us an informed understanding of the latest changes to school mathematics.
  • Modern technology allows new possibilities to support student learning. Below are two examples of screen-capture videos constructed to assist our students.

Support in your studies

  • Each student has a personal tutor to offer academic and personal support and guidance.
  • Career advice is embedded in all our degrees. Right from year one, members of our Careers Service help you to plan for your future. The skills gained on our mathematics degrees and the applied nature of our statistics courses are all in short supply nationally. Such degrees will provide an excellent start to your career.
  • We run the SUM:UP support scheme which provides one-to-one help through a drop-in centre in the library. This is open from 10am to 4pm every weekday during term.
