MSc Marketing and MBM students take part in XING business game

A mix of MSc Marketing and MBM students recently took part in the XING business game,
where they had to decide on the strategy to launch a new product. The students were free to choose the product, but it had to have a sustainable feature.

They set objectives and using the XING game developed at Cambridge University decide on a series of nearly 90 decisions relating to HR, Marketing, Operations and Finance and create a business presentation – all in the space of 5 and a half hours. In this they are helped by 8 industry experts who volunteered their time to help.

The winning team consisted of Tony Powell, Marianna Nanou, Angeliki Athanasopoulou, Alex Gousseau, James Fisher, Lucasz  Gierczak and Ben Lotzer, all are MSc Marketing and Strategy students.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

Sabrina SampsonSabrina Sampson - MSc in Marketing Management & Strategy graduate

For the last 20 years I have been directing the marketing activities of a small professional services company, however, with only on-the-job and short-course training, I realised I could benefit from more rigorous training in an increasingly competitive global market. I chose this particular course because it focused on employability and linking the academic course work with real marketing experience.

Going back to school has been a true delight, I feel very lucky to have been able to participate in an intensive one-year course. This course offers a good blend of academic and real-world problem-solving, which for someone who has been in industry for a long time, makes the academic portion seem more grounded and applicable to the world I know.

As an American student the International Student Advisory Service has been very helpful from the beginning, I appreciate the information they provided starting from when I applied, getting my visa, and orientation once I arrived.

Due to the development of the Chinese economy, marketing seemed to be a promising programme and I thought that studying on this course might help me build my career and have the ability to solve real problems in the marketing sector after graduation.

Although I found it hard at the beginning, as I only had a basic knowledge of marketing, especially marketing research; I overcame this with the support of the lecturers here at Plymouth University, who gave me access to class notes the day before the class; giving me time to read and understand the context in advance.

Studying at Plymouth University has changed my career goals as I was planning to become a Mandarin teacher but now I plan to look for a job in marketing after I graduate.
