Aim of the programme

computer scienceThe MSc/MRes Computer Science is for students who, having completed a computing (or computing-related) degree, wish to further their expertise in this rapidly moving area.

The content of the MSc/MRes Computer Science is flexible, offering a wide range of optional choices. In addition to core fundamental modules, a number of modules may be selected from those available on other masters programmes in the School of Computing and Mathematics, on topics such as e-commerce, web technologies, information systems security, networks, digital arts, artificial intelligence and robotics.
 
The School of Computing and Mathematics conducts teaching and research in computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics and computer applications. The school is well equipped with high-spec workstations, and more powerful parallel computing and cluster facilities.

​Professional accreditation 

BCS logoThe quality of the course is assured as it is accredited by the BCS (British Computer Society) - The Chartered Institute for IT.
 
A graduate is entitled to membership of the society (MBCS) and can work towards Chartered (CITP, CEng) status with three years' relevant work experience.

The BCS South West branch has a very active programme, holding many of their sessions at Plymouth University. The branch has a rich programme of events that contributes to broadening the knowledge and experience of the students.
