The Student Counselling Service Group Work Programme for Spring and Summer Term 2012

The Student Counselling Service has a New Group Work Programme designed to help you get the most from your personal life and your studies. No need to book. Please feel free to come to any of the sessions below. If you want to know more, please email me anne.bentley@plymouth.ac.uk.

Weds 25th April​ Overcoming Exam Anxiety

It’s normal to worry about exams. In fact some adrenalin can help you to perform well. However too much anxiety can stop you from doing your best and can use up a lot of your energy, leading to tiredness, headaches and sleeplessness.

The good news is that you can learn to manage anxiety more effectively and strengthen your revision and exam skills.

This session will help you to understand and control your anxiety and suggest ways to help you relax and cope during exams.​

How to give a Presentation with confidence

An interactive session to look at personal issues around giving a presentation.

This session will show you  how to overcome presentation anxiety and provide practical strategies for coping better.

Weds 9th May Stress: How to cope better

We can all feel stressed at times. When we feel stressed we know that it is having a negative effect on our well-being. To learn to manage stressful situations better and balance the competing demands of your busy life, come along to this information talk and find out what changes you need to make.

This session is an information session and presentation. You will not be asked any questions or be required to give any information about yourself. There will be hand-outs for you to take away. ​

Weds 16th May​ Worry: How to manage it

Do you think of yourself as a ‘worrier’? Does worry have a negative impact on your life? Can you cope with uncertainty, or do you find it upsetting and stressful? Do you worry about your worrying? If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the above come along to the Information talk and find out how to ‘stop worrying and start living’.

The sessions on Managing Stress & Worry are information sessions. You will not be asked any questions or be required to give any information about yourself. There will be hand-outs for you to take away.

If you think that working on personal issues in a group is not for you we invite you to think again! It is normal to be apprehensive at the start but it can be very supportive to experience that you are not alone in struggling with a difficulty. Any personal material brought to workshops or groups is confidential and this is agreed at the outset.
