The housing needs for postgraduate students are often different to those of undergraduates who are entering higher education for the first time. We therefore listen to our existing postgraduate students in order to provide an appropriate service.
Although there are no dedicated postgraduate halls, there are areas of university-managed halls of residence only occupied by postgraduate or mature students. Working with our partnership providers of student accommodation, we refurbished Mary Newman hall of residence in 2007 and completed Francis Drake Hall in 2008. Both Francis Drake and Mary Newman halls offer longer licences (42, 44, 46, 48 or 51 weeks) more appropriate to the length of postgraduate programmes of study.
Landlords on our approved database are able to advise about the suitability of their available accommodation for postgraduate students. Often postgraduate students will look for suitable private accommodation with other postgraduates.
Studio flats, which provide individuals with their own kitchen and shower facilities, are a popular option for students who enjoy having their own space. These are available in allocated, approved and other private accommodation.
