Find a Home event

What is Find a Home?

Find a Home is an event for students new to Plymouth to meet other students to live with.  Find a Home events happen in August following A Level results (dates for 2012 are the 23rd, 24th and 28th of August).  These days are for new students who have not been made an offer of university-allocated accommodation and so are looking to rent accommodation in the private sector.  Students can bring a parent or guest with them for moral support.

Students have the opportunity to meet and get to know other students, allowing them to choose who they want to live with.

Other advantages of private sector accommodation often include bigger bedrooms, more communal living space and cheaper rents, providing a fantastic, affordable alternative.

All properties on the approved accommodation database are within 20 minutes walking distance of the University campus and the city centre.

What to expect

On arrival you will need to sign in and will be given an itinerary and maps.

Meeting housemates - Accommodation Info

You will spend time with the Students' Union where you will meet and 'break the ice' with other students via a variety of games and exercises.  During this time, your parents and/or guests will be invited to attend a session where a range of speakers will provide information and advice regarding the University's approved accommodation and living in the private sector.

Finding a home

Once you have met and started to get to know one or two others in your situation we will get you started on looking for your new home.  Computer suites will be available so that you and your new friends can search our database of approved accommodation.  Representatives from local managing agents who specialise in student accommodation will also be available to answer questions and provide information.  When you have finished making appointments with landlords or agencies you will make your way to the viewings.

The Student Accommodation Office will be open to help with any queries you may have.

Book your place at the event

Find a Home events take place on several dates, however you cannot book a place until after A Level results.  The dates for 2012 are the 23rd, 24th and 28th of August.  Keep an eye on the website for details nearer the time.

You may find it useful to read our guide to choosing approved accommodation before arriving at the event in order to gain an undertstanding of what to look for.  Please also see information about university-approved accommodation and managing agents

  • Comfortable footwear: you will need to walk between viewings (all properties are within a 20 minute walking distance of the campus).
